Embraced in Pikes Reverie
“Embraced in Pikes Peak Reverie” is an homage to the breathtaking majesty of Pikes Peak in Colorado Springs, a mountain that has captivated hearts and minds for generations. Inspired by the ethereal hues of the sunrise painting the sky in shades of purple and pink, this string quartet embodies the awe-inspiring beauty of the mountain and the deep sense of nostalgia and longing it evokes.
PALF8DOC026
“PALF8DOC026” is the label of a container used by scientists to collect samples for research on how climate change is affecting plankton communities off Antarctica’s Anvers Island. This piece begins sounding very sterile like a test tube. This sterile sound is achieved through only implementing 5 notes in the whole piece. The bottle itself has a deeper meaning now as it tells the story of how plankton communities are changing, and so the piece becomes more melodic and emotional.
Sketches of the Melting Glaciers
I composed this piece after watching a video of a polar bear sink into the ocean as the ice he stood on was too thin. There is a great melt happening which is threatening polar bears extinction as they lose access to their habitat and sources of food. In this piece I worked towards capturing the beauty of slow-moving glaciers with repetitive and slowly changing themes. Like the fracturing glaciers, the interaction between the three marimbas will become disjointed and out of sync.
